The Challenge

Using ethically traded chocolate from Montezumas, The Chocolate Challenge is a great team development activity. It simulates a complete business process from initial concept through design, production, marketing and promotion. It's all done in a light-hearted and highly creative environment requiring co-operation, mental and artistic skills (and several kilos of chocolate!).

In this chocolate team building activity participants are divided into teams of approximately five to undertake various challenges. These range from piping names on chef's hats (in chocolate, of course) and creating an original branded box of chocolates.

Team Building

Using creative thinking, teams work through a series of product development tasks. First they must seek out a gap in the chocolate box market and come up with an original product to fill it. Each team then has just 90 minutes to turn their idea into reality. They must construct and decorate the box, make the chocolates from raw ingredients, calculate their profit margin and create a TV commercial. The finished products are later assessed for quality, profitability and originality with prizes awarded to the winning team. Each aspect of the performance can then be reviewed to draw out parallels with day-to-day working life.

The Details

This chocolate team building activity lasts from 1.5 hours to 3.5 hours and can be run in most venues from hotels and conference centres to the client's own premises. This team building activity works well as a stand-alone activity, as part of a day's meeting, or within a team development programme.
